I’m not really the ultralight (UL) trekking expert, but I think that one for a 2-persontent with a weight of 2,350 g (= 1,175 g per person) can talk from a UL tent. If the tent offers also still so much space for the Eden 2 of GoLite, even comfort Zelter (like me) will be wiser. The GoLite (via mountaineers) company has kindly provided an Eden 2 to test me available.
Eden will be delivered 2 in a stable Pack bag with 14 pegs (170 g), 3 push rods (510 g), as well as the tent itself. The pegs and the linkages are as usual again housed in very light bags.
The instructions for the installation of the tent is sewn in the stuff sack (what I’ve discovered until after construction). Who want to save a few grams so once again can cut out, which is but so useful to cut such as the handle of the toothbrush.
The construction of the GoLite Eden 2 is fairly easy, where it is the most difficult is to thread the pushrod in the universal channels on the flysheet. Here you should be careful to damage the thin material of the tent by the end of the rods. The long Middle pole as well as the two shorter outer tubes are used, must only each insert a peg on the head – and foot section and the tent is. The groundsheet can with 6 pegs then fix and still tighten the outer tent when necessary.
The inner tent is connected to the outer tent and is situated directly to the outer tent. Thus, the tent can be rebuilt also quite comfortable in the rain.
Space, ventilation Material
The space is huge when you consider the weight of only 2,350 g. A lying area of approx. 260 x 140 cm due to the asymmetrical design inside the tent. With my height of 1.90 meters, I have therefore lots of head – and Footroom. Wife and our little Eve are at the rehearsal with my (what appropriate name :)) we still have ample freedom of movement. Also sitting is in the middle of the tent (height about 120 cm) in my size no problem.
Also the two big inputs, as well as the are each very comfortable spacious apse under the place also a larger backpack.
The inner tent is made up almost exclusively of mesh (20 denier polyester no-see-to mesh). In combination with with the tent should provide for a sufficient ventilation the adjustable aerators at head and foot end. In practice I can test during my visit to the OutDoor look.
The outer tent consists of 15 denier Ripstop Nylon and features 1,200 mm water column. The groundsheet is 3,000 mm water column and consists of 70 denier 190t nylon taffeta.
More details are 5 inside attached loops (for example to hang clothes), the loops to the fold of inputs on outdoor and indoor tent, and two large pockets in the inner tent. The zippers of the inputs are also covered and thus to further safeguard the apse before rain.
The GoLite Eden 2 makes an excellent first impression. The space is really more than generous in the face of low weight for 2 persons. The design is well thought out and offers meaningful detail solutions. How the tent in practice proves to be seen however.
The price of GoLite Eden 2 tent is nearly 375 euro at CampingTopGear.com, but is definitely worth.
